3 Important Tips to Maintain Your Pool’s Health

Having a lavish swimming pool is not that everyone can afford. And when they do, they would love to spend time there with their loved ones. Now think of a situation, where you see dirt, dust, debris, rotting leaves and algae. Not cool right? This situation needs serious attention because the pool’s health also effects your and your family’s health. That said, here are some tips that you can use to maintain the pool in the best condition:
1.   Keep an Eye on the Chemistry of Pool – Yes you must have basic knowledge of chemistry to maintain your pool neat and clean. This is because chemical levels are the most important aspect of pool maintenance.
When chemicals are not balanced properly, the water looks cloudy and can become the breeding ground for bacteria and algae. This can cause the irritation of skin and eyes. Also, you may suffer from ear, respiratory and other infections without realizing the root cause.

Ideally, you should test the water 1-2 times per week in summers and once per 1-2 weeks in winters as bacteria love warm water and tend to grow faster in summers than cold weather.

Bonus tip: These are the five chemicals that you need to consider:

·     Chlorine - Chlorine is used to disinfect the water, making it safe and germ-free.
·    Cyanuric Acid – It protects the free chlorine present in the water from the ultraviolet rays of the   sun.
·   Calcium Hardness – This refers to the amount of calcium present in the water. If calcium level is     too low then water will become corrosive causing damage to your pool’s body.
  ·    Acidity/Alkalinity – Also known as pH level, acidity need to be maintained between 7. and 7.8 to avoid irritation of the skin.
·        Total Alkalinity – This helps to keep pH in balance, the level should be maintained within the range 60– 120.
2.      Filter is Your Pool’s Kidney – Kidneys work constantly to remove impurities from your body. In the same way, pool filters remove impurities from the water, like leaves, dirt, etc. Remove the debris collected in the filter basket at least once a week. You will also need to clean out pipes of your filter system by backwashing. Simply set your filter to “Backwash”, remove the leaf basket and let it clean it out. As for the pipes, clean them once every month.

Pro tip: Do a note, set your filter on a timer and let it run for at least six hours a day.

 3.      Try Baking Soda and Cut the Cost – Chemicals are expensive to purchase, aren’t they? You can get little help straight from the convenience store. It is recommended to use sodium bicarbonate, to control the alkalinity of a pool without reducing the pH level. Here you can use regular baking soda as this does the same job as sodium bicarbonate. You have to use an identical amount of baking soda as that of sodium bicarbonate. However, you can consult the Swimming Pool Builder New Braunfels and elsewhere to get more tips on using other products that can help you maintain a healthy pool.
